What to Do in a Dental Emergency

- For a knocked-out tooth, handle it by the crown, not the root, gently rinse it, and try to place it back in the socket or keep it in milk. Call us immediately, as time is critical.
- For a severe toothache, rinse with warm water, floss gently to remove any trapped food, and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gums.
- For a broken or chipped tooth, save any pieces, rinse your mouth with warm water, and use a cold compress to limit swelling.
- For a lost filling or crown, keep the restoration if you can and avoid chewing on that side until you are seen.
- For swelling or a possible abscess, rinse with warm salt water and call us right away, since infection needs prompt attention.
